What size air conditioner do I need?

My house has no ductwork. Am I out of options?

How long does installation take?
A typical replacement where the pad, lines and ductwork already exist is a one-day job. First-time installs run longer — there's a coil to fit at the furnace, lines to run, a pad to set and a new circuit to wire. Spring booking beats July, when everyone whose AC died in the first heat wave is in the same queue.
Should I replace my furnace at the same time?
If the furnace is old, it's worth pricing together — the AC coil sits on the furnace, so combining the work shares labour and avoids paying twice to open the same plenum. If the furnace is mid-life and healthy, a properly matched coil on the existing unit is completely fine.
Why does certified refrigerant handling matter to me?
Beyond it being required: a system charged by guesswork runs badly for its whole life — too little refrigerant and it can't cool, too much and it strains the compressor. Certified installers weigh the charge to the manufacturer's spec and recover old refrigerant instead of venting it. You feel the difference every summer on the hydro bill.
