A new countertop is the single most visible upgrade a kitchen can get, and it's often a one-day installation once the top is fabricated. The process is simple from your side: we template the existing cabinets, the top gets cut with sink and cooktop openings at the shop, then it arrives finished and gets set, seamed and hooked up.

Material is the big decision. Quartz has taken over Ontario kitchens for good reason — consistent patterns, no sealing, tough against stains. Granite brings natural variation and handles hot pots better. Laminate has quietly gotten good-looking and remains the budget champion. Butcher block warms up a kitchen and suits islands, with a little upkeep. Each has honest trade-offs and we'll walk you through them against how your kitchen actually gets used.

The overlooked detail is what happens at the sink: an undermount needs a solid-surface top and gets installed with it, the faucet comes off and goes back on, and the plumbing reconnection needs doing properly. Common questions

How long does countertop installation take?
Installation day is usually just that — a day, including hooking the sink back up. The full timeline is template day, then fabrication at the shop, then install. You keep your old counters until the new ones arrive, so the kitchen only loses its sink briefly.
Quartz or granite — which should I pick?
Quartz for consistency and zero maintenance; granite for natural character and better heat tolerance. Both outlast the rest of the kitchen. If you set hot pans directly on counters, lean granite or use trivets on quartz. Bring your habits, not just your Pinterest board, to the decision.
Can you put new counters on my existing cabinets?
Usually — that's the most common job we do. The boxes need to be sound and reasonably level; small shimming is routine. Very old or sagging cabinets sometimes need attention first, and stone tops are heavy enough that we check rather than hope.
Do I need to be home for templating and install?
For templating, ideally — decisions about overhangs, seams and sink position are much easier in person and take minutes. For installation, someone just needs to let the crew in and be reachable.
What happens to my old countertop?
It comes out carefully — old tile or stone tops can fight back — and leaves with us. If the old top is worth saving for a workbench or the cottage, say so before install day and we'll cut and set it aside instead.
