Every house collects wall damage. The hard half is making it invisible: feathering compound wide so the patch doesn't sit proud, matching the surrounding texture, and priming the patch so the paint doesn't flash a different sheen where the repair was. One honest caveat: a stain or crack is sometimes a messenger. Water stains need the leak fixed first — we'll help you confirm it's dead before sealing and painting. Common questions

Will I be able to see where the patch was?
Not if it's done right and the wall gets painted afterward. The giveaways on amateur patches are a hump where compound wasn't feathered out, mismatched texture, and paint sheen that differs over the patch. Wide feathering, texture matching and priming the repair before painting are what make it vanish. Painting patch-only can still show in some light; repainting the full wall guarantees uniform.
Can you match my wall or ceiling texture?
Usually, and it's a skill worth asking about specifically. Orange peel and knockdown textures can be recreated with spray or trowel techniques; older stippled ceilings take some experimentation on a test patch first. Dead-smooth walls are actually the least forgiving — there's no texture to hide within, so the feathering has to be perfect.
There's a brown stain on my ceiling. Can you just paint over it?
Paint alone won't hold — water stains bleed through ordinary paint, sometimes within days. The fix is confirming the leak is genuinely resolved, then a stain-blocking primer, then paint. And if the drywall is soft or sagging, that section gets cut out and replaced rather than disguised.
The same crack keeps coming back every year. Why?
Seasonal movement. Houses expand, contract and settle, and weak points — often above door and window corners — open up repeatedly. A durable repair uses tape or mesh across the crack, not just filler in it, so the joint can flex without telegraphing through. If a crack is wide, growing, or paired with sticking doors, it's worth a closer look at what's moving before we patch it.
Is a small hole really worth calling someone for?
