Soffit & Fascia in Ontario

Soffit and fascia are the boards that finish the underside and front edge of your roofline. The fascia is the vertical board your eavestroughs hang off; the soffit is the panel tucked underneath, usually vented to let the attic breathe. Most people never think about them until paint is peeling, a board is sagging, or something has moved in.

When fascia rots, the eavestroughs it carries start to pull away, and water ends up running down the wall instead of away from the house. When soffit vents get blocked or damaged, the attic can't breathe, which shortens the life of the shingles above and invites ice dams in winter.

Common questions

How do I know if my fascia is rotting?
Look for peeling paint, dark staining, or fascia that feels soft when pressed. A giveaway is eavestroughs that have started to sag or pull away — they're only as solid as the board they're screwed to. If a screwdriver sinks into the wood, that section needs replacing, not painting.
Something's getting into my roof through the soffit — can you stop it?
That's a common call. Squirrels and birds work loose or damaged soffit panels to nest in the attic. We close the entry points and replace the damaged panels, keeping proper venting so the attic still breathes. If an animal is currently living up there, it needs to be removed by a wildlife control service first.
Should I do soffit and fascia at the same time as a new roof?
Often it makes sense. The roofers are already up there, the eavestroughs may be coming off anyway, and you get a consistent finished edge. If your roof is fine but the fascia is failing, we can do just that — no need to replace what's still good.
Aluminum or wood — which is better?
Aluminum soffit and fascia doesn't rot and rarely needs painting, which is why most replacements go that way. Wood suits heritage homes where the look matters, but it needs upkeep. We'll match whatever your house has and tell you honestly what each involves.
