Hanging drywall is the fast part. What separates a good job from a bad one is everything after: taped seams that never crack, screw heads that never telegraph through paint, and corners that run straight under raking light from a window. That finishing stage — bedding tape, then two or more progressively wider coats of compound, then sanding — is where the skill lives.

Most of our installation work is basements being finished, garages getting boarded, new partition walls, and renovations where the old walls came out. Each has its wrinkles: moisture-resistant board where dampness is possible, ceiling board that won't sag between joists, and the fire-rated drywall the code requires on the garage side of walls shared with the house.

Finish level is worth discussing up front. A closet doesn't need the same glass-smooth surface as a ceiling under pot lights — professional finishing is specified in levels for exactly this reason, and paying for the right level in the right room is how you keep the price sensible. Common questions

What does "paint-ready" actually mean?
It means taped, coated, sanded and primed-or-primable, with no tape lines, screw dimples or tool marks visible under normal light. It doesn't mean painted — final colour is a separate stage. If you want one crew to carry it through to paint, ask for that in the quote so you're comparing like with like.
Do I need special drywall in the basement or bathroom?
In damp-prone areas, moisture-resistant board is cheap insurance, and behind tub and shower tile the right answer isn't drywall at all — it's cement board or an equivalent tile backer. A basement also wants its insulation and vapour barrier done correctly before any board goes up, or you're sealing future problems into the wall.
Why does the garage need different drywall?
Walls and ceilings between an attached garage and the house form a required fire and fume separation, which is why the code calls for specific board and sealing details there. It's not an upsell — it's one of the few places where the material choice is regulation, not preference.
Can you board over my old wall instead of tearing it out?
Sometimes, and it saves demolition mess. Overboarding works when the existing wall is flat and solid — common over ugly-but-sound plaster. You lose a bit of room depth, and outlets need extending. If the old wall is crumbling or hiding moisture, covering it up is the wrong move and we'll say so.
How dusty is this going to get?
Sanding compound makes fine dust; there's no pretending otherwise. A tidy crew contains it with plastic barriers, floor protection and vacuum-assisted sanding, and cleans up daily. Sealing off the work zone from the rest of the house is standard practice, not a luxury.
